What's for supper?

Tonight we had something new, non-regional and it was very good.

Methodist Hamburgers, I am guessing it is mid-western.

Methodist Burgers
from Julie on a Homeschool board I frequent.

1 lb ground beef
1 tsp beef bullion, or one cube
1/2 cup hot water
1 Tbsp cornstarch
salt and pepper to taste
2 tsp mustard
grated onion flakes, or real onion, to taste

Crumble beef in skillet and cook till no longer pink; drain. Dissolve bullion and cornstarch in hot water and add salt, pepper, mustard, and onion to drained meat. Simmer for 1/2 hour to 1 hour. Serve on buns. Can add mustard and/or ketchup (or whatever you want!)
Don't stir the meat, you want the meat to stay in one piece.  I cut it into eight pieces and put on the bun.

We garnished our Methodist Burgers with onion, ketchup, and School Girl pickles.  I made my pickles using the first link.

I served the Methodist Burgers on homemade hamburger buns sprinkled with Penzey's Sandwich Sprinkle. The only thing I did differently was brush the rolls with Olive Oil and sprinkled the seasoning on it.

Hamburger Buns
1 – 1/2 Cups water
1 – 1/2 Tablespoons olive oil
3 – 3/4 Cups bread flour
1 – 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
1 – 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 – 1/2 teaspoons active bread yeast
Use the dough setting of your Bread machine. When the dough is done put it on a lightly floured board and divide in half. The goal is to get 7 to 8 hamburger buns of appropriate size and shape. When you’ve got the buns the right size and shape put them on a greased cookie sheet. Remember not to put them too close together as they’ll get larger as they cook.
Cover the buns with a clean, light-weight kitchen towel and let the buns rise for half an hour. Then remove the towel and put the buns in a 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
Move the cooked buns to a rack to cool.
